The threats from pests and diseases are a major concern to the UK, and to the nation’s gardeners in particular. Plant health in gardens is one of the four themes in the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) science strategy (https://www.rhs.org.uk/science/science-strategy) and the RHS has reviewed its plant health policies and procedures to ensure the Society fulfils its vision of enriching everyone’s life through plants, and making the UK a greener and more beautiful place.
This role will assist in developing and implementing a programme of activities to improve plant health practice in the RHS. The role is also expected to provide authoritative and up-to-date plant health advice and information to RHS members and the general public.
A first degree in a relevant biological subject, plus a higher degree or equivalent experience is required. A thorough knowledge of plant pest and/or disease diagnosis, epidemiology and management is required together with good knowledge of biosecurity policy and practices. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate to scientists and the public, and will be able to work effectively as part of a team and using their own initiative.
We want to enrich everyone's life through plants, and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place.
