Our apprenticeship scheme is aimed primarily at 16 to 19 year olds but is open to all, including career changers. The scheme will help you develop the knowledge and skills to service, maintain and repair a wide range of horticultural, agricultural and forestry machinery. This opportunity is open to everyone no matter how little experience you have.
The position will be offered on a two year contract. As an RHS Apprentice, you will work alongside our mechanic team leader supporting the horticultural team whilst studying at college for the Level 2 Land-based Engineering Apprenticeship. You will gain practical experience in using a wide range of horticultural machinery helping to create the RHS's fifth garden at Bridgewater.

Job Purpose: To assist with the servicing and maintenance of agricultural, horticultural and forestry machinery within RHS Garden Bridgewater as part of a training programme in horticultural engineering.
Accountabilities
1. Assist with a range of machinery tasks in the day to day servicing and maintenance of machinery within the horticultural service yard and RHS Garden Bridgewater machinery working in a team and individually to a standard agreed with your line manager.
2. Recognise the need for excellent customer care with other RHS staff and the public. Actively develop your awareness and knowledge of the site, its activities and objectives in order to assist and interact with customers when required.
3. Participate in any training in the garden and participation, attendance and assessment of the Trailblazer Level 2 Apprenticeship qualification.
4. Assist as required with RHS Shows and Events.
5. Adhere to current Health and Safety legislation and best practice in accordance with the Society's Health and Safety Policy Statement. Must wear corporate work wear and special personal protective equipment. Be able with direction, to work with, service, repair and maintain a wide range of horticultural tools & equipment, in a safe manner.
6. To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required of you in the post.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
KNOWLEDGE
ESSENTIAL:
1. 2 GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths and a Science at grade C or above.
2. Ability to grasp information and apply recently gained knowledge.
3. Avid interest in machinery.
SKILLS - JOB COMPETENCES
1. Use of Microsoft Word including producing reports and formatting letters
2. Use of the Internet to carry out research, obtain information and e-mail
3. Ability to communicate accurately and effectively in verbal and written English, to understand instructions and complete work records.
