Our apprenticeship scheme is aimed primarily at 16 to 19 year olds but is open to all, including career changers. It provides training in a broad range of arboricultural skills to individuals with little or no arboricultural experience.
The positions will be offered on a two year contract. As an RHS Apprentice, you will work alongside our experienced arboricultural team while studying at college for the Level 2 Arborist Apprenticeship. You will gain experience and knowledge in the establishment, growth and care of trees, woodland management. You will also gain experience in using a wide range of arboricultural equipment all whilst working within an exciting and unique environment.

Job Purpose: To assist with the management of woodland and trees at RHS Bridgewater, as part of a training programme in arboriculture.
Accountabilities:
1. Assist with a range of arboricultural tasks in the day-to-day management of trees and woodlands within the garden, as part of your learning and development, working in a team and individually, to a standard agreed with your line manager.
2. Recognise the need for excellent customer care with other RHS staff and the public. Actively develop your awareness and knowledge of the site, its activities and objectives in order to assist and interact with customers when required. 3. Participate in any training in the garden. Participation, attendance and assessment of the Level 2 Apprenticeship qualification.
4. Assist as required with RHS Shows and Events.
5. To adhere to current Health and Safety legislation and best practice in accordance with the Society's Health and Safety Policy Statement. Must wear corporate work wear and special personal protective equipment. Be able, with direction, to work with a wide range of arboricultural tools & equipment, in a safe manner.
6. To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required of you in the post.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
KNOWLEDGE ESSENTIAL:1. 2 GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C or above.
2. Ability to grasp information and apply recently gained knowledge.
3. Avid interest in trees, woodlands, ecology and arboriculture.
SKILLS - JOB COMPETENCES
ESSENTIAL:1. Use of Microsoft Word including producing reports and formatting letters.
2. Use of the Internet to carry out research, obtain information and e-mail.
3. Ability to communicate accurately and effectively in verbal and written English, to understand instructions and complete work records.
4. Good team player with energy and enthusiasm, being approachable, polite and friendly.
5. With guidance, organise daily work plans and be willing to try new areas of work.
6. Show enthusiasm for working outdoors.
