The School of Horticulture's practical training programmes are accredited to ensure that they are recognised in your future career or studies.
We offer two different diplomas at the RHS as listed below:
RHS Level 3 Diploma - Hyde Hall & Rosemoor (1 Year):The RHS Level 3 Diploma in Horticultural Practice (DHP) at one of our RHS Gardens is a one-year course of paid practical experience along with academic studies leading to a professional qualification. As a Horticultural Student you will assist in day-to-day cultivation and maintenance tasks within the team, rotating through various garden sections. Skills covered on the course include pruning, planting, cultivation, propagation techniques, turf care, fruit and vegetable production, machinery use and plant identification skills as well as employability skills and communication.You should have a good general knowledge of horticulture, a passion for learning, and the ability to work as part of a flexible team. A full UK driving licence is desirable and you should have proven practical experience in horticulture.
RHS Level 4 Diploma - Wisley (2 Years):The RHS Level 4 Diploma in Horticultural Practice is a two-year programme delivered through paid practical experience and academic studies. Students will complete the Level 3 DHP in year one, and the Level 4 DHP in year two. The programme will give you the skills you need as a horticultural supervisor, including management, budgeting and effective communication in addition to practical horticultural skills. As a Horticultural Student you will assist in day-to-day cultivation and maintenance tasks as you rotate through the various teams in the garden learning about plants and a broad range of practical skills, as well as attending a full range of training activities and completing project work. You will also have the opportunity to make use of the vast resources of the RHS, learn more about the workings of the entire organisation and participate in our world recognised Shows.You should have a good general knowledge of horticulture, a passion for learning and the ability to work as part of a team. A full UK driving licence is desirable and you should have proven practical experience in horticulture.
